Protesting against Israel’s terror attacks while also boycotting Coca Cola and Nestlé?

    I’m thinking based

I wish the reason were more reasonable. Coca Cola is the main plastic bottle polluter on the planet, while Nestle has very questionable practices in 3rd world countries, specifically, but not exclusively when it comes to water sources. These would be much better reasons for boycotting these companies than their alleged support of Israel.

Mainly because support for Israel can be nuanced and on a spectrum as in supporting the current bombing campaign, versus the current right wing extremist government of Israel, versus the support of the apartheid in Israel, versus the right of Israel to exist as an ethno-state for Jewish people. I wonder where Coca Cola and Nestle would land… and where Turkey thinks it draws the line.

Except, Ukraine called for a boycott against Nestle because they are one of the few that keep operating in Russia and nobody listened.

And Ukraine is actually at war.

Israel got attacked by a load of extremists and since has been massacring civilians in retaliation. That’s not a war.

Can we just do this everywhere without the political implications involved? I mean it’s not that hard to make your own awesome drinks at home. I make hop water these days. It’s like an IPA with all the flavor and none of the fun 🤣

There are so so many reasons to drop Nestlé. That they had the ability to do so but waited until now says more about them than anything else.

Doing two correct things (dropping coke and nestle, and condemning Israel) for weird unrelated reasons is a good thing I guess.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

ANKARA, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Turkey’s parliament removed Coca-Cola (KO.N) and Nestle (NESN.S) products from its restaurants on Tuesday over their alleged support for Israel amid the conflict in Gaza, according to an official statement and a source who named the two companies.

Speaker Numan Kurtulmus made the decision, it added, in order to “support public sensitivity regarding boycotting products of companies who have openly declared their support for Israel’s war crimes (and) killing of innocent people in Gaza”.

A parliamentary source said Coca-Cola beverages and Nestle instant coffee were the only brands removed from menus, adding the decision was meant to respond to “huge public outcry against these companies” for supporting Israel.

The Turkish parliament’s move is among the first by a government or major organisation to target big global brands over the month-long war between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.

Over the past month, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and his government have sharply criticised Israel’s assault on Gaza and Western support for Jerusalem.

Hundreds of thousands of Turks have taken to the streets to protest against Israeli operations into Gaza over the past month.
