There is a discussion on Hacker News, but feel free to comment here as well.
Would be so surreal to start seeing commercials for Linux (as a desktop), OEM machines being sold w/ Linux at big stores and so on.
It’s been like 30 years of Windows being the majority at this point and it just keeps getting buggier and more user hostile every year, a paradigm shift is very much needed IMO.
I just built a new PC for our family room, and I had planned on making it Linux only…until I found out my son wouldn’t be able to play the full version of Minecraft without a convoluted workaround.
Wait, what? I play a lot of Minecraft on linux. Java version works perfectly. (And I’ve never played bedrock, but apparently bedrock is buggy? And java is where the mod packs are)
Marketplace only works on Windows, and we’ve gotten him a couple of the packs for like Jurassic World, Sonic, etc
huh?
that should be very easy.
there is even an official flatpack build.just install flatpack (if your distro doesnt come with it preinstalled)
and then install minecraft, and sign into your microsoft account.I have only played Minecraft on Linux… What needs windows? I needed to open an Xbox account to get the multiplayer to work, but I was able to do that on my android phone.
