When you learn a new word in English, you need to memorize all of these:

1. What it means
2. How to pronounce it
3. How to write it

In many languages points 2 and 3 are basically the same, so there’s less to memorize. It’s a lot like the connection between the number “543” and text “five hundred forty-three”. If you know one, you’ll automatically know the other.
