Dear God this game is an abomination.
I’ve never played it - how would you describe the gameplay?
I havent played the game but from what i understand it seems like your typical mobile gacha game, where you collect characters and they autofight enemies. Except it isnt f2p and doesnt have any microtransactions. It is just a paid game, with all the trappings, design and progression of a f2p mobile game.
Except it isnt f2p and doesnt have any microtransactions.
That part of it is appealing, though not if the game itself isn’t worth the price of admission.
Yeah, the lack of microtransactions and theme are its strong points. It even has some light story stuff.
But if you want to play a game of that style, you might be better off playing Star Rail(from the dev that made Genshin Impact), which is a f2p game with tons of microtransactions but you can really enjoy it without spending a dime. And Star Rail’s design and production values are unrivaled.
🙄
“Instead of the complete game without microtransactions may I recommend a F2P game rife with dark patterns and pay-to-win content?”
It’s a pretty dull turn based battler. Think the battle mechanics of something like final fantasy, pick an enemy and an attack your character knows.
Sounds pretty standard for what was originally a mobile game. Trek’s mobile efforts have never managed to grab me in the long term, though Timelines was okay.
Have any of their video games been good? I mean, I can’t think of a single star trek game I’ve played and liked, unlike star wars that pops out real bangers
That’s a difficult conversation to have, “good” being in the eye of the beholder, but we did have a thread about it a couple of months ago.
If you like old school adventure games, the TNG game, “A Final Unity” was great, but sadly isn’t available on any platform I’m aware of these days.
And the recent game, “Resurgence”, was good if you like TellTale style narrative games.
I liked Armada but that’s about it :/
I remember liking the Star Trek: The Next Generation LCD handheld game. Was it good? No, probably not. Definitely not by today’s standards. But in a pre-Gameboy era, the bar for handheld games was pretty low.
So Star Trek Pokémon?
Kirk used two-fist smash. It’s not very effective!
Gorn used Swipe, but it missed!
Kirk used Rock Throw. It’s super effective!
The wild Gorn fainted!
I enjoyed this when it first came out on mobile, but not enough to keep paying for the apple arcade, or whatever. Plus, I don’t think any other app I’ve ever used has come close to causing my phone to heat up like this one did.
But I can definitely see picking it up on steam to play mindlessly while I’m listening to a podcast or whatever.
