Iran informed the US that it would refrain from responding to the airstrike in which senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders were killed in Damascus if a ceasefire in Gaza is reached, Jadeh Iran reported on Sunday.

The news outlet cited an anonymous Arab diplomatic source, saying the source spoke to the news outlet two days ago. The source added that “If America succeeds in containing the situation, it will be a great success for the Biden administration and we can build on that.”

      None for otherwise.

A ceasefire may allow Hamas to regroup and survive, which would be a bad thing. Then again, from my couch it seems like IDF is not about to destroy Hamas completely with this war.

You know what would be a bad thing? Letting Israel government and their IDF have their way and keep murdering more and more innocent people. A ceasefire is definitely needed.

They (Israel government) currently have murdered around 33 000 – 35 000 Palestinian people already. Hamas is a literal creation by Israel, Israel has done so much horrifying things from 1948 up to 1987 that a group of normal people made Hamas and become violent.

Want Hamas to stop existing? Then let Israel stop their ethnic cleansing, genocide and at least give half of the land back (that was and stays Palestinian land).

An occupier cannot become its owner.

The only way for this not to be the case so far has been to murder thousands of children.

Call me old fashioned but maybe we should take the chance and not murder innocent children.

Does Biden have the power to stop supporting the war? Like will any action be null and void due to the USA political structure or does he in fact have some sort of power that can stop all support by a stroke of the pen?

The issue is about Iran promising retaliation, something Israel had in their calculations long before executing the strike on Iran in Damascus.

Israel has historically shown that they are more than capable of striking targets inside Iran. Iran knows exactly this and this is the reason for them using the Palestinians as a shield to avoid an escalation.

Ask yourself, was the offer time limited? If not, then there is actually nothing stopping the suffering of the Palestinian people in the “offer” from Iran.

So, what aces up the sleeve does Iran have here? What leverage do you speak of?

Iran is now “using Palestinians as a human shields”? What am I even reading here? Israel is trying to escalate their Genocide to a regional war.

Iran is trying to stop israel committing Genocide and not start World War 3. A very peaceful and responsible response to israel bombing the Iranian embassy.

If you believe that Iran doesn’t have the means to attack Israel you’re a tad short on info. We have already seen the Iron Dome is a massive failure against mass missile attacks, even Hamas owned it with pipe rockets. And Iran has far more than that.

Israel has committed a terror attack on the Iranian embassy which is a massive violation of international law. Iran has the right to defend itself which is the leverage.

However Iran is generously presenting an option where instead of a war with massive casualties, there will be no casualties and the Genocide stops. A win win for everyone except the Genocidal Nazis in israel.

Excellent point. In our struggle against Iran it is very important to deny them this tactic. Which is why Israel should immediately stop massacring, occupying, oppressing, and ethnically cleansing the Palestinians. A free independent Palestine will definitely strip Iran of a lot of leverage in the region. To politically destroy and defeat the Iranian regime, let us all unite in proclaiming Free Palestine!

So we are just accepting that Biden could have stopped this months ago and decided to keep being against it so much that we had to drag him to this point?

          Fuck that!

Just like the people who seem to think that we should just forgive Israel for everything they have done just because they finally fucked up so bad.

Never forget that they could have stopped this earlier and they didn’t

One, there’s been no proof of rape happening by them (although there’s probably some sexual assault and harassment, which is obviously terrible. I condemn Hamas, etc.). Two, you think they have a higher chance of getting the hostages back if they continue this indiscriminate bombing campaign over actual negotiation? There’s a reason families of the hostages have been protesting Netanyahu. He doesn’t give a shit about the hostages. He’d rather they all die than have an extended ceasefire.

Iranian diplomacy operates along the lines of a Jinn. Every move feels like a Faustian bargain. You ask the Jinn for a giant penis and it gives you a giant penis attached to your head, then disappears in a puff of smoke.

Out of mere curiosity I checked your comment history and well was not surprised to be honest.

      • Making things immediately personal.
      • Claims without actual evidence (the Hamas rape comments)
      • Calling people ‘‘deranged’’

It’s clear as day you are at least a Israel supporter, I won’t be surprised if you’re a Zionist. I’m always curious why Israel supporters always makes things immediately personal, claims things without clear evidence and insults.

There’s plenty of misinformation perpetrated by both sides. Singling out the Zionists isn’t giving much. That being said, we need to push our discourse to start from factual positions. I bet 99% people on social media only skim headlines and have no idea what the articles discuss or the factual matters of what they are talking about.

Singling out the Zionists isn’t giving much

Singling out Zionists definitely has a purpose because this way you know, they speak with obvious bias and a dislike towards Arabs and especially Palestinians. You cannot take Zionists words serious at all. For example; this particular person made a huge claim about Hamas but zero evidence (no trustable source) and when you just check their post history, it gets even more ridiculous. The person claims that ‘‘half of Lemmy are antisemite’’.

Here’s proof of that claim, of his: his particular claim

Finding the Zionist also helps to understand that there’s no reasoning with said person.

There’s plenty of misinformation perpetrated by both sides

It’s unfortunately true that there’s a lot of misinformation on both sides, wish there was not but is what it is. I suppose.

That being said, we need to push our discourse to start from factual positions. I bet 99% people on social media only skim headlines and have no idea what the articles discuss or the factual matters of what they are talking about.

I cannot speak for other people on social media but, I have been doing lots of research about the entire thing. Articles, books, podcasts and research into the past. I always write with facts when it comes to Israel-Hamas/ Palestinians, I also back it up with evidence such as sources from trustable sources (articles, books and newspapers).

EDIT: Done some edits because Lemmy somehow messed up the formatting. Should be good now.

Well allow me to comply with your request, then:

The US can stop all arms selling this instant and it wouldn’t change a thing

                  Is categorically and ridiculously false.

Not only are the vast majority of the bombs that they’re dropping American made, they’re also receiving tens of billions in monetary aid from the US.

As for the next biggest supplier, Germany, they send an annual total if $300m to Israel, only $20m of which are offensive weapons. Contrast that with the US’ annual total of $3.8b, most of which are offensive weapons and you can’t in good faith argue that the US halting shipments wouldn’t have a significant impact.

And that’s not even considering the fact that many countries, likely including Germany are at the very least partly supporting Israel out of fear of angering the US, which could result in dire consequences.

If the US washed its hands of the genocidal apartheid regime, you would definitely see many other countries follow their lead.
