Yourapeian Union is requesting feedback from the plebs about introducing digital euro starting two months ago.
Almost all feedback comments are about privacy and freedom! Are the serfs getting too uppity? do you think EU will stop it’s digital Euro project?
They did a poll and privacy was either #1 or #2, in the conclusion paper for that poll they acted like privacy is kind of important for people and that is why they’ll do “anonymous” transactions where the people involved can only be identified to “prevent crimes”. The only real use the digital euro will have for us is making people more familiar with digital money. Sure, a ton of idiots just won’t care (until their money gets frozen because their trip to the zoo exceeded their monthly carbon emission limit) but hopefully many will find their way to Monero after they realize just how bad things really are.
Preaching to the choir I know. But it needs to be said. Any carve outs or exceptions for extenuating circumstances become the default over time. The most useful tool becomes the de facto tool.
Prevent crimes could mean anything. A crime tomorrow could be perfectly innocent today. We just don’t know where the wind will take us.
Open ledgers are extremely concerning
