The UN warns that half the population of Gaza is starving and nine out of ten people there can’t eat every day - as Israeli bombardment of the territory continues
A hospital boss in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, says his team has “lost control” over the numbers of dead and wounded arriving at the facility
The city is surrounded by Israeli tanks on two sides; the Israeli military says it’s fighting from house to house
The death of an Israeli hostage - Sahar Baruch, 25 - has been confirmed by his kibbutz and a hostages’ group, following reports of a failed Israeli rescue operation
On Friday, the US blocked a resolution at the UN Security Council calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire, arguing this would be dangerous and unrealistic
So Biden et al. think that starving thousands to death is less brutal than pushing Netanyahu to sign a ceasefire is.
Yeah, whatever.
The in practice analysis seems to be that Biden’s calculating that Israel listening to US diplomacy is worth more than Israel being compelled by international force.
The behind the scenes negotiations the US has been pushing have seen hostage swaps along with concessions regarding the post war situation like Gaza being able to develop their natural resource economy.
Basically he’s using the public image of defending Israel to have more soft power since Israel’s response to international condemnations has been “fuck you I do what I want!” anyways.
but by doing so he is causing lot of damage to his image, american reputation and even to Ukraine. Am 100% against putin but its funny to see him getting arrest warrant for kidnapping ukrainian children while Israel gets pass for killing 17k person of them lot of children and women. It didnt even sign the genieva convension.
It’s definitely a hard call by Biden. There are no right, easy answers to the problem. What I know with absolute certainty is I’d rather have Biden handling the situation than Trump. I don’t like the way it looks and feels, but I know we’re at least doing better than the alternative.
I genuinely can’t see how Trump could have responded to Israel’s actions here worse than Biden. The rhetoric states side might have been more toxic, but Biden has been cheering on the genocide about as hard as anyone could, and doesn’t seem to have any real victories towards peace. I guess maybe they avoided an Israeli ground invasion in Lebanon, if that was actually in the cards?
Less a pass and more a shield of 75 years of “if you disagree you’re an antisemite!” giving the west a flinch reaction
It also doesn’t help Russia’s side of the equation that their response to this is often, “WHY DON’T WE GET TO DO IT THEN‽”
The military industrial complex can’t profit from peace. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is a gold mine.
Did the ceasefire include hostage release?
Yes. shame nobody seems to care about them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It did not. I’ve never seen a time when the UN and individual countries didn’t protest the holding of hostages.
It did not.
Did you read my link?
Finally found it.
release of all hostages, as well as ensuring humanitarian access.
Means that both are guaranteed to happen. But only one party is part of the UN and bound to the decision.
That is the reason for the veto IMO.
Finally found it.
I would hope so, it’s literally the 2nd paragraph 🤣

That’s why it’s the security council. They could actually enforce it. But it’s a shame getting the hostages out in exchange for stopping the mass murder is not enough motivation.
It would be simple. Hamas could surrender and lay down their weapons. Release the hostages. But, no. They still fire rockets at Israel, they still fight house to house.

No it didn’t. It ‘demanded’ their release which Hamas would have said nah to obviously.
Hamas wants to release the hostages, as part of a ceasefire deal that actually secures their interests (mostly freeing Palestinian
hostagesdetainees and loosening the blockade). Like it or not this is the status quo Israel created with their won hands.
Hamas needs to surrender and let the hostages go. That ends the war. Simple and clearly the best thing for their people. So much suffering easily averted.
They won’t though - Palestinians dying for propaganda was they whole reason they attacked and started this war.
Hamas are the architects of the greatest betrayal in history.
I don’t think giving up their only leverage ‘ends the war.’
But I could be wrong. Problem is, there’s no going back once that’s done.
I see you’re pushing the Zionist talking point that Hamas would prefer defeat over victory, which is just asinine.
Yes Hamas continuing to torture hostages and maintain leverage is definitely more important than the Palestinians 🤮
You completely ignored my point, lol.
They also ignored that the Jewish hostages that were released were more worried that Israel would bomb them than their captors would kill them.
Prepare for the horror and condemnation in the future when there is a solidarity car or suicide bomb in Israel from America and the UK et al. Why would these evil terrorists do such things
“We get to do whatever want to you, and you don’t get to fight back!”
Who wouldn’t be eager to take that deal?
