‘Your tax is funding genocide’

The No Tax for Genocide campaign, which launched on Thursday, wants 100,000 people to pledge to withhold income and council tax. The group estimates this could deprive the Treasury of £700m in a year.

    In general, just a stupid idea. It won’t deprive the government of any money, because you can’t just tag a random condition to your tax repayments.

    This isn’t even a case of it’s never been done before. Lots of people have used every excuse to try not to pay tax.

    You’re better off trying to sue the government.

    How would this be possible? How would an individual employed by a company withhold tax from their wages, if they’re paid net? Surely it would need 100,000 self-employed or businesses themselves to withhold tax from HMRC?

    Let me remind you that a government doesn’t need to tax in order to spend. Spending comes before taxing.
