Yeah tbh I find we are way slower to rock the boat than we should be given the advantages of being a small nation. We’ve a lot to learn from the Baltics in that regard.

We should have expelled the Russian ambassador and the public would have roundly supported it. If they reciprocated it’s not that much of an issue for Irish in Russia because they can use any EU consulate.

Alas, it never happened. I see the same here.

The only meaningful thing that I’m aware we’ve actually done while watching this slaughter and starvation is join South Africa in their genocide case.

The public push the government but they clutch their pearls and wring their hands instead of taking the moral stances that small nations can.

Declaring recognition of statehood has all sorts of legal implications, it may take a bit to finish settling those now that they’ve actually decided to do it, and then most likely the decision will be formal/final in July.

This is huge! I know it’s just a step to ending the genicide but I’ll take anything at this point.

No, I was implying there never was a state of Palestine, only Palestinians living in Palestinian territories

That’s just as dumb as saying there was never any Native American states because it doesn’t fit my/western definitions of what qualifies as a state. Therefore those people have no entitlement to land or life.

There never was a state called Palestine, the British took control of the land from the Ottomans. The Ottomans had controlled the land for centuries and before them the Syrians

You mean terrorities who issued passports and gave temporary permits to Jews after British brought them there?

There are “Palestinian territories” but no functioning state matching eg the definition of statehood declared in the 1933 Montevideo Convention.
