The suffering of the Sudanese may be off camera now, but it won’t be in a few months when babies are starving en masse.

We can’t get shit done about active murder of children in Israel. How the fuck are we gonna do anything about passive deaths? I hate the world.

I actually think we should be doing more in every area, don’t read this as me not caring.

We live in a genocidal world order where zillions of people needlessly die just to keep the genocidal fascists upholding it in power, and the only reason they haven’t been overthrown is because of how many people see themselves as beneficiaries of the genocide.

There are significant differences between Gaza and Sudan though. We do have a better chance of stopping this one.

With Gaza the genocidaires are a key US ally and consequently the US is aiding them and trying to block interventions by the UN and ICC.

With Sudan neither of the belligerents are important to the US. The SAF is backed by Iran and its opponent the RSF/Janjaweed is nominally backed by United Emirates and also backed by warlords with ties to Wagner group.

The RSF is militarily backed by the United Arab Emirates and has profited greatly from selling conflict gold to Dubai, Chad and Russia, which seeks a base on the Red Sea. The RSF has used genocidal violence and mass rape against non-Arab ethnic groups in Darfur and mass atrocities in other regions to gain territory.

The corruption-fueled Sudanese Armed Forces is backed by Egypt and Iran, with Iranian drones providing recent battlefield momentum. The SAF is dropping barrel bombs on urban neighborhoods, arresting and torturing Sudanese pro-democracy activists in ghost houses, and committing other grave rights violations.

The Sudan famine is not really “passive” tho, it’s a civil war with a genocidal component.

No worries. I only wrote one line cos you don’t really like me replying to you in my threads, but if you’re interested in knowing more my other comment in here explains how this is different from Gaza and we have a better chance of stopping it.

Sounds like you’ve noted my handle and noted disagreements, but I just searched your name in the thread looking for more info and didn’t find an explanation for stopping it. Maybe it was the deleted comment.

@some_guy basically I was just pointing out that unlike the Israel situation neither side here is an important US ally. This is going to take either an AU intervention or a UN one.

I don’t think we’ve had disagreements. For reasons I don’t really understand you objected to me replying to your comment on my thread once and told me not to reply to your comments. I objected at first but you got quite irate and told me off.

I don’t block people because reasons, but I hoped you’d just block me, to avoid a repeat of whatever it was.

I normally refrain from replying to you at all in my threads but in this case I thought it was worth pointing out because the world really can do more for Sudanese civilians if there is more awareness of the situation.

Curious if you could link to when we had a spat? I only recognize a handful of names on Lemmy and most are because they’re super active (not saying you aren’t super active). If my name stands out to you, that seems like the spat must have been noteworthy.

Sure, I can probably dig it up if you’re interested. Like I said, it wasn’t a spat, it was just you telling me not to reply to your comments.

I’m a bit of a film fan and was pleasantly surprised when Spielberg of all people said something vaguely against killing civilians in Gaza (half of Hollywood seem to be wildly pro genocide), so I posted it in a movie sub.

Emotive subject, might explain it. Also I get lazy about deleting tags. Maybe when you see it again you’ll remember how annoying I am and block me this time!

Anyway here it is, I can’t seem to format it for other instances but here it is viewed through kbin.

You’re right. I remember that. And I didn’t read the end of the quote. Apologies.

I was all pumped for the A15 protests at the time and I was really mad (still am). I wasn’t saying not to reply, just not to tag or @ me.

Context: I’ve been mad at Spielberg for a while for glorifying war in Priv Ryan. I went into that comment thread with multiple sets of baggage. Apologies again for lashing out without taking in the content in an unbiased fashion. I take ownership when I make mistakes. Cheers.
