I’m migrating my account away from the main lemmy.world instance to lemmy.zip.
I’ve never used Linux before. I’ve only ever used Windows and macOS. Also can the Steam OS play non Steam Windows games. Could my daughter play Roblox, Fall Guys and Sims 4 on it?
So it’s not really a practical replacement for a PC? Damn.
If it ends up having cloud streaming and Wi-Fi Direct being a connection option I can see it working. But £300 (if true) is way too much. £150 - £200 and I’d seriously consider it.
Ah I though it had Windows installed.
Is it possible to install Windows 11 on it and use it has a hybrid gaming PC/gaming handheld/everyday PC if it’s connected to a dock with a monitor and keyboard & mouse?
I thought the Steam Deck was Windows too.
Yeah it’s why I’m on the fence about a Steam Deck. I’m stuck between a Project Q and gaming PC or just getting a Steam Deck with a dock and monitor so my gaming PC is like a Switch. Is that possible with a Steam Deck?
I’ll take lower resolution any day if it means I can play AAA games on the toilet.
If you want to play the exclusives you’d be better off with a PS5 and not streaming them.
Which is a shame as it doesn’t need to be that way. Remote play from my PS4 Pro to my Vita is almost perfect. I don’t think I’ve played Fall Guys on my PS5 for months. It’s like it’s made for the Vita. Plus the OLED screen is gorgeous.
Tell me about it. It why I’m still playing GT7 on a TV instead of in VR.
Can’t the Steam Deck do that with the remote play app for Windows? Plus it’s also a gaming PC. I’m considering picking one up instead of a Project Q.
We’re really spoiled by online guides now.
I remember being stuck for ages on the picture puzzle where you had to press the buttons under the pictures in age order and 11 year old me just couldn’t figure it out. Months later I spotted the solution in a magazine. It was like finding gold.
I always preferred the original over the directors cut. Resident Evil is the game I bought a PlayStation for after seeing it at a friends house and I had to have it. It’s possible that if it wasn’t for Resident Evil I wouldn’t have got into gaming.
It’s been a while since I played those but I remember being underwhelmed by Underground 1. 2 was far better iirc.
I still have to get round to playing the demo for FFXVI. I thought FFXV was just ok so I’m not sure about dropping £70 on this until I’ve tried it. I seem to remember one of the later chapters being so dull I dropped off it for ages. I enjoyed FFVII Remake though.
Yes you can play online with random people I believe.
I thought about getting a Steam Deck for emulation but I like having original hardware too much and this way my PS2 discs don’t just sit collecting dust.
On the subject of the Steam Deck how is it for playing games like Sea of Thieves and Sims 4? It seems like a far cheaper alternative to a gaming PC assuming I could also connect it to a monitor and use it for non-gaming stuff too.
Yeah the digital PS2 classics are hit and miss.
As for the pressure sensitive buttons I’ve tried a few games that “require” them like MGS2 and it’s perfectly playable without them just like the HD versions on the PS3 are.
But I completely get why some people would just emulate them. You’re never going to get 4K from a real PS2 but I guess as I remember getting my PS2 on launch day (and PS1 for the matter) I have that nostalgia that makes me want to play it as close as is possible to “stock” while still throwing in some modern quality of life upgrades. Like can you imagine wired controllers in a house with two kids who never watch where they’re going? Plus I just don’t have space for a good sized 16:9 CRT.
Thank you.
If you do decide on a PS2 for a hard drive make sure to buy a fat model.
I completely agree. I too still regularly use my Vita. Considering it’s an 11 year old piece of hardware it still feels up to date.
