Not doubting his general point. But it is a bit weird of Mr Gomart to pick the Rafale to prove it.
It is precisely what happened there (France leaving the Eurofighter Typhoon programme and doing their own model due to not being able to find a common compromise) that cripples European alternatives and enables American models to dominate our market.
Would we be able to agree on common standardised models, we could have far more for far less and it could be European.
He admires Putin for his approach to shamelessly robbing the wealth of his country into his own pockets and those of his disciples.
That’s the world Trump wants to live in. Floating above the law, riches flowing in without having to do something and commoners praising you as a strong leader. It’s the dream of a person that tries to outrun the sad truth that he is too weak to be successful when actual competition is around.
help ukraine to hold out until putin is dead or ukraine get nukes.
Why not both?
It’s the main takeaway from the last days that America can no longer be relied upon, effectively stripping Europe of its protection. Hence, Europe must provide its own security, both conventional and nuclear, to no longer be reliant on another country and really be safe. This is ultimately the inevitable consequence.
Because Europe still highly depends on the weight America provides within NATO to deter aggressors. Given Trump’s statements, it is highly doubtful that they would actually honour Article 5. That is very bad news for countries such as the Baltics or those that missed the memo such as Germany.
It would be the end of the United States being a relevant world player if they failed to honor the treaty.
Problem is: it would be the end of a free, democratic and peaceful Europe first.
I’d love to see our ties grow stronger as a sane counterweight to the madness happening south of your border.
Russia is building up forces for a confrontation with NATOEurope
No one should keep thinking for one second that the US would honour the treaty.
If thats what you want, then go live your dream. I’ve met consultants that transferred from entirely different professions at a rather late stage in their working lives. When that starts to pay well might be a different question…
Even someone living under a rock should have waken up at very latest by that orange muppet taking the White House for the first time 8 years ago.
But but but it was sooo cozy in bed!!
I wonder if Europe can sustain Ukraine on its own?
I’m afraid we’re going to find out…
Because that doesn’t fit into the plans…
For what its worth, they can get those 500 billion Dollars worth of rare earths if Zelensky can have a nice evening walk on Crimea’s beaches again… ;)
It is a very long way for Europe to become underdeveloped in comparison to those illusionary giants in the East, so that’s a risk I’m more than willing to take.
No thanks.
Instead of looking for the next big daddy to get exploited by, let’s sort out our stuff ourselves.
I’ve said it before and will do it again:
For what its worth, the US can have whatever deal they want - if they ensure that Russia pisses off from the entirety of Ukraine, compensates for the caused damages and Zelenskyy can go for a nice evening walk on the beaches of Crimea. And NATO membership.
