Guys, I’ve gone back. Turns out you can get Reddit revanced and remove the ads/promoted posts so I’m fine with the Reddit app now. I’m kinda using both but there’s just so much more content on Reddit.

Bit late to the party, but either Mortal Engines, the Young James Bond series, or Michelle Paver’s Chroncal’s of Ancient Darkness. They were all very engaging and transformative to a young me.
I probably remember parts of Young James bond the best, there’s parts about leeches that really stuck with me. I can still remember Mortal Engines as a whole in great detail, the concept and descriptions of the city chases are fantastic.
I just check 1337x’s trending torrents for movies and TV most days when I turn my computer on. Works well enough for me unless it’s a much smaller show. I didn’t notice What We do in the Shadows was back for 3 weeks because not enough people DL it for it to be in the top 100.
It was a much less compelling hearing(?) Than you’re making it out to be. It amounted to the guy saying “some people have told me X”.
Still no proof, I’m not a blind believer. The likely answer is still aliens haven’t visited earth.
I’ve always liked the theory, well more interested as it’s a pretty terrifying concept. I just don’t believe interstellar and lightspeed travel is common/easy enough for aliens to devote so much effort into seeking out life, travelling for hundreds/thousands of years just to destroy any other lifeforms it detects. There’s no benefit to either party really, any resource you could get on a habited planet you could find on a number of uninhabited ones without the massive expense of an intergalactic “war”.
Plus we’ve been sending out signals for years, we should already be dead - unless the aliens are going to take 1000 years to get here. And I don’t see how it’s worth it.
depressingly not convinced faster than light travel will ever be possible, especially for humans or human-like organisms…
I think you’re right, the only chance we’ll ever have at reaching another habitual world (if we ever even detect one well enough) is with cryogenics and/or colony ships. It’ll take hundreds, possibly thousands of years till we’re at that point thought. Especially when our civilization puts so little into space travel. We should really have a moon base at this point.
I believe aliens exist, somewhere in the universe. Statistically it seems inevitable, I just don’t believe they’ve visited earth or even know we exist, just like we don’t know they exist. You can sit on something like that, there would be much better evidence than grainy fake looking videos and second hand accounts.
Earth is a very early stable planet, I’m sure there will be lots more species in the coming billions of years. We might even be the most advanced civilization in the galaxy. But we’ll probably never contact anyone else, best we do is notice signs of life on a distant planet.
I’ve only got a out 1.5tb but if I ditched Netflix I’d need to download 10+ shows with hundreds of episodes. I’ve already got a few 6+ season shows on my Plex but it’s mostly 1-2 season newer shows because everything has segregated so much in the past few years. If you don’t have Disney+ and want to see all the marvel shit, it’s adding up quick. It’s not like I’m rewatching all this stuff, I have 300 movies and rewatch one or two maybe once a year. I just keep everything because it’s not very expensive to me. If I need more space I’ll drop £100 and have storage for the next 5+ years.
Then there’s the people who download 25gb 4k movies and shit, I will occasionally but I don’t like to do it.
I sub for the skip intros alone, turns out it affects everyone who watches on your server which is great.
I don’t really utilise any other aspects of Plex Pass but £4 isn’t much to me and Plex is insanely useful to me.
Anyone who would’ve left Reddit has already done so, they may be a small increase when Boost/sync becomes available but I doubt we’ll see much growth. No one has ever heard of Lemmy.
It’s probably a case where Russia could attack Poland’s forces in Belarus but attacking Polish soil would involve article 5.
Podcasts on what? I listen to most of my podcasts on YouTube so sponserblock takes care of that.
Have you tried listening to them on YouTube? I find most people I want to listen to upload them there too.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm
Most of it is contained to Reddit related communities, just block them if you don’t want to see the downfall of Reddit in real time.
I’ll be a bit scared doing that, with all the instances I’ve been thinking how easy it will be to have malware links. How is shi.t.justwo.rks or whatever less random than a malicious link?
Sure, if you’re studying the effects of social media, you’ll have to go on it. That’s not what we’re talking about though. Kids aren’t needing to communicate through social media with other “researchers” at school. Not sure why you’re equating school children to scientist doing actual first hand research, school projects are almost always second hand information, from the research papers, even if they’re about social media.
But let’s not kid ourselves, 99% of what students used YouTube for was timewasting. I didn’t like it when I was at school but I recognise blocking YouTube was easier than monitoring every kids computers at school to make sure they’re working.
They’re meant to be using link aggregators like Google Scholar to find papers, not Facebook. Definitely not TikTok.
And idk what it’s like in your country but the vast majority of research for school here was done at home for homework, where you can watch all the “lectures” you want. Kids just look at dumb shit when they’re at school so they don’t have to work. They also don’t have time to be watching hour long lectures in class. You really don’t need access to social media sites at school.
Imagine thinking I’m on a high horse because I understand kids like wasting time. Give me one good reason someone would need to use TikTok for school purposes. XD
I’m not sure when you graduated, but YouTube has never and will never be considered a valid source. You need to be looking at research papers, studies, newspaper articles and shit. At best the YouTube video might have sources in it’s description and then you reference those sources, not youtube.
Time wasting sites like YouTube or TikTok have been blocked in schools for as long as I can remember.
I’m more addicted to my phone, it’s just lemmy is what’s easiest to continuously scroll through at this point.
First you have to install the revanced manager onto your phone.
Then uninstall the play store Reddit app if you still have it. And install a version of Reddit from here I believe you want a bundled version but it’ll tell you if that’s wrong when you try patch it with revanced.
Finally open the revance manager and find Reddit, click the patches you want - it’s quite limited still and you’ll probably only want to select the remove ads patch but have a read, there might be 2 or 3 you want. If there’s an error try downloading a slightly older Reddit apk.
