I already have a hybrid schedule, so the days that I am working room home gives me so much time back, but that also still doesn’t particularly help me budget my way out of living with my parents.

I’m not someone deep in the throes of poverty, I’m decently middle class and I work an office job but 12 hours of my day is dedicated in service of my job. My alarm goes off at 6 so I get up, washed, and dressed in the morning, leave by 7 for about an hour drive to work, I have an 8 hour work day with an unpaid hour for work, and an hour drive back home which brings me to about 6 pm. I’m already tired from the day and by the time I’ve made dinner, eaten and cleaned up it’s easily close to 8:00. Before I’m too tired to go much further past 9:00 or 10:00.
And before you say, “why not move closer to your job” Gee I wish I thought of that but I live at home with my parents because homeownership is quite a bit beyond my economic ability at the present moment and rent is even more expensive than having a mortgage.
That’s the way it is with every platform, you only have a comparatively small proportion of people who do a huge share of the posting.
Reddit has the advantage of being absolutely massive that the power posters is also still a huge number. I’d imagine even the biggest of entire Lemmy instances is smaller than some of the major subreddits, which personally I’m fine with. This emmy instance isn’t some major corporation beholden to growing value for shareholders at all costs, but on the other end it still doesn’t mean the admins can do everything without monetary or labor support from us.

Allow me to quote a great political philosopher of our time: Some of those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.
There are quite a few people embedded in our political machinery, in congress, in the supreme court and held the presidency, that are actively working on overthrowing the government and replacing it a fascist state. The police who showed up and supported the jan 6 insurrection are doing exactly what that contingent of fascists want, they did not falter, they did exactly what their superiors wanted.
My point is is that the cops, who you quote replied their role as protest/riot suppression for the government, were on the side of the rioters and insurrectionists on Jan 6.
Suspended with pay. But I was implying the cops didn’t “falter.” Enough of them were in favor of it and some were actually there as part of the insurrection.
Who said Jan 6 was faltering?
It’s not that it’s hard to learn, it’s that we don’t have a strong intuition. It’s not that difficult to know there are 12 inches in a foot and 3 feet in a yard or that metric is entirely based around factos of 10. But its the intuition of what an inch looks like, what a pound feels like to hold in you hand. Most people wouldn’t be able to pick up an object and say, “that weighs about a pound” or look at an object and say “that’s about 3 feet long” but a lot of people do have an intuition what an energy drink can looks and feels like and can imagine getting hit by one, a lot of people have picked up a pineapple at the grocery story, people have the intuition of how big a football field is or how big a city bus is.
We do such a shit job at teaching our own actual measuring system that nobody has an intuition what a pound feels like, what an inch and a foot look like and how to scale those up. So we resort to objects and comparisons instead of actual measurements.
If I don’t have internet, I can’t do my job, therefore I can’t get money I need to spend on food, water and shelter, which I need to live.
It’s because so many conservatives stopped socially and mentally developing in 6th grade.
I get it man, I really wish this quote/lyric wasn’t applicable to literally every day too.
Giving the benefit of the doubt I can see that reading but it definitely implied that stupidity is genetic because of how big the stupid people family tree gets and the scifi story it was based on was a looooot more explicit with the eugenics of the story.
Because Google has literally poisoned the internet to be the de facto SEO optimization goal. Even if Google were to suddenly disappear, everything is so optimized forngoogle’s algorithm that any replacements are just going to favor the SEO already done by everyone.
Ignoring the blatant eugenics of the very first scene, I’d rather live in the idiocracy world because at least the president with all of his machismo and grandstanding was still humble enough to put the smartest guy in the room in charge of actually getting plants to grow.
Some of those those that work forces are the same that burn crosses.
Yeah that’s been the joke since the Witness was first revealed in With Queen just over 2 years ago.
I’m lucky enough that I don’t have a huge weight problem, and the bit of pudge I do have would probably be pretty easily solved by drinking less sugary drinks. But I’m also speaking from a place of empathy because I get that there are basically no options that cover the healthy, quick, and cheap requirements people want from their food.
