mriswith@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft shuts down email account of International Criminal Court chief prosecutorEnglish51·4 天前I’m on the other side of the world from Microsoft HQ, and I can still hear the shouting.
Because this was basically a one way decision that will now block them from a lot of future contracts with governments, organizations and companies.
I was on one of those around 2000. Profiles were called crypts, instead of likes it was pentagrams and it was styled to look like it was written on parchment.
mriswith@lemmy.worldto Games@lemmy.world•Bungie confirms it stole art once again, will undertake a 'thorough review' of Marathon assetsEnglish16·4 天前They copy-pasted text and personal logo.
If you think that’s “abstract enough”, I’m guessing you’re either a plagiarist or an “AI artist”. Or do you want to admit that you didn’t really look at the comparison images?
mriswith@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Huge cost of military parade on Trump’s birthday is revealedEnglish15·4 天前In reality we all know it wont do shit.
In Trump’s mind it will show the world what a glorious and powerful leader he is, and everyone will just do what he demands.
That’s because it’s a programmed response.
There literally is no concept of a joke in their algorithms, it’s an advanced chat bot basically going through a list of responses and comparing them similar questions it as analyzed, and spits out the answer that is likely to match.
Boomers still think fast-food jobs are part-time things that teenagers do for some pocket change. They literally do not grasp the idea that there are adults working there to pay rent and buy food.
It’s literally been decades since I’ve seen it, but I seem to remember that he got upset regularly when he was forced to participate with the family instead of playing outside.
mriswith@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Netflix will show generative AI ads midway through streams in 2026English1·5 天前As the old saying goes: Don’t feed the trolls.
Replying as if half the comment doesn’t exist and putting the word intelligent in quotes is a classic antagonizing move by trolls to make people try to engage them.
mriswith@lemmy.worldto Trans Memes@lemmy.blahaj.zone•Jadzia Dax has some good quotes for trans folksEnglish6·5 天前I checked memory beta(which includes non-canon but licensed work like some comics, Star-Trek Online and similar) and here’s a list of hosts with known information about spouse or child(ren):
-
Lela, 1st host, 21st century: Wife with husband, two children.
-
Tobin, 22nd century: Male trill with one child, no spouse listed.
-
Audrid, 23rd century: Wife with symbiont husband, two children.
-
Torias, 23rd century: Husband with symbiont wife
Spoiler: Are you sure you only found those last two?
- Jadzia, 24th century: Wife with husband
The info box lists six marriages and nine children. So I’m guessing not everything is accurate or not all sub-pages updated.

mriswith@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.world•Why Windscribe's court case proves how important VPN no-logging policies areEnglish8·5 天前Get your head out of your ass and learn to read. No one likes the “Uhm akshually, that’s not technically true” -guy. Especially when they’re techinically wrong(it’s not talking about no-logging for your entire browsing session, just that the VPN doesn’t store logs of your usage. And that is very much a thing, as proven by this court case).
mriswith@lemmy.worldto Privacy@lemmy.world•Why Windscribe's court case proves how important VPN no-logging policies areEnglish6·5 天前Tom’s Guide has nothing to do with Tom, and it’s not for privacy oriented people.
Case in point: In the article they link their top 5 VPN picks for 2025. Those being NordVPN, Surfshak, ExpressVPN, Proton and PIA. And for some reason the site has a hate-boner for Mullvad, and keeps mocking it in this article, and others for not having all “features” the others do, not paying for audits, etc.
mriswith@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•Harvard Law Paid $27 for a Copy of Magna Carta. Surprise! It’s an Original.English87·5 天前A little context:
-
It was bought just after WW2.
-
It’s not an original, original. It’s the 1300 version, not the 1215 or 1225.
-
It’s one of 25 known originals
-
It’s one of 3 known to still exist outside of Britain.

mriswith@lemmy.worldto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Software engineer lost his $150K-a-year job to AI—he’s been rejected for 800 jobs and forced to DoorDash and live in a trailer to make ends meetEnglish7·5 天前He’s a software engineer, I’d bet on him automating it in a way that it’s been flagged by commonly used recruting tools and is auto-rejected.
Some of those tools also use LLM now, and they’re regularly found to be flawed and turning away wanted applicants.
mriswith@lemmy.worldBanned from communityto Europe@feddit.org•Minister: Finland plans to change its track gauge to European standardEnglish4·5 天前Removed by mod
mriswith@lemmy.worldto A Boring Dystopia@lemmy.world•We Study Fascism at Yale. We’re Leaving the U.S.English34·5 天前Oh, it opens with a 6min unskippable video. instead of an article, on a website that still has the line “Today’s Paper” at the top of the page.
At this point I’m convinced that the NYT is living in the 2000s.
mriswith@lemmy.worldtoLemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•“This script is fantastic. Let’s get Julia Roberts to play Harriet Tubman.”English33·5 天前The average Hollywood executive is really dumb, but they tend to be great talkers and networkers.
mriswith@lemmy.worldto politics @lemmy.world•WATCH: Ben & Jerry’s Co-Founder Gets Dragged Out of RFK Jr. Hearing in Wild Protest SceneEnglish31·6 天前To be fair, Ben & Jerry’s is owned by Unilever. And if one of those leaders showed up it might have been different, but they’re mostly British and don’t care.
(For reference, there’s more than a 50% chance you have some of their products in your home, as they “serve” over 3bill people a day. With brands like Knorr, Jif, Hellman’s, Lipton, Axe, Q-Tips, Dove, Vaseline, and many, many more. They are the world largest ice cream manufacturer. If you look at your local brands, at least one probably has the “heartbrand” logo, indicating it’s owned by them. )
mriswith@lemmy.worldto Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Github keeps shoving copilot everywhere.English11·6 天前They spent a lot of money developing it, and now they have to justify that money. So they’re going to keep pushing it until some idiotic manager doesn’t have red numbers in their spreadsheet. Regardless of what people want.
I hate modern MBAs.
Despite what many people think/have heard, most places do not have a specific law against doing loops in a roundabout. And when they do it is often a local ordinace(mostly small towns trying to prevent a local car community from driving up and down the main street all night). Although other laws or regulations can apply depending on circumstances.
Things like impeding/obstructing traffic, careless/reckless driving, noise ordinance, etc. But if you’re driving around one in an industrial area at night, the worst you’ll get is probably some accusing questions and a “warning”.
