I think it’s more likely that ppl will simply become the more expected way to spell it. When was the last time you saw someone write out etcetera, ASAP is common in all but the most formal of settings.

On the rare occasion I have to wear a dress shirt for work, I’m making sure it’s as wrinkled as possible. I wouldn’t want to be mistaken for one of the execs, it gives the impression that you don’t work hard. I think it’ll continue bubbling up in the same way not wearing a tie and not having curtails did.

For the lazy US has 3.5x more guns than Finland and 35x more firearm homicides (which, not to nitpick, is not necessarily the same as a firearm death). If us has a 10x reduction in firearm homicides to be more in line with their gun ownership they would go from being ranked 23rd (as of 2019) to 42nd or so, going below countries like Canada (although Canada’s gun crime is strongly linked with the us), new Zealand * and Sweden.

I’ll also point out though that Finland has stricter gun laws than the states, relavent to this post they have a minimum age of 20 to buy firearms. They need licenses and a justification to carry them around, and there are fairly strict storage rules.

* I realized that 2019 was the Christchurch mass shooting, which brought the rate from 0.2 in 2018 to 1.2 in 2019, so probably not very representative of NZ gun crime.

Cynically, there’s a lot of incentive at every level to cut corners and kick things down the road to when it’s different people’s problem, But otoh things can go fast when sufficiently motivated. Hope it all works out.

You may appreciate “miracle workers” the first season is set in modern times (kinda) but each other season is set in a different historical setting.

If your on windows (yeah yeah windows bad) I would suggest Windows Power tools. It’s developed by windows as a 3rd party tool so it’s relatively easy to get approval to have it installed if you need it. and it comes with many other useful tools besides the always on stuff

I would suggest growing your own mushrooms as the safest way to be sure they aren’t tainted, it’s pretty easy (the hardest part is keeping things sterile) and you can grow quite a bit at once in a small footprint. In my jurisdiction it’s not even illegal so long as you destroy the final product upon maturity.

If you take co2 and convert it to methane and then release that methane you are increasing the impact of that co2 by 6x.

A perfect Electrolysis reaction takes about 39kwh to produce 1kg of hydrogen that if burned at 100% efficiency would yield 33kwh of power. More realistically it takes 50-60kwh to produce 1kg that is burned to produce ~25kwh of usable energy.

I’m not too sure about converting hydrogen to methane but that will have energy overhead as well, and then you have to deal with the fact that 6% of natural gas production today is leaked into the air, which both further hurts the efficiency of synthesizing it and also has a significant climate impact.

I think it willl almost always be cheaper to just provide electricity directly except in cases where energy density is far more important than efficiency, which is not the case for stationary homes.

And what about heating water?

A heat pump water heater is pretty great, if my basement ever gets too hot I run the dishwasher or take a shower and the water heater cools things down nicely. In winter I close the door and vent to the utility room and it doesn’t hurt the heating very much. It’s smaller than my previous gas water heater but it lasts significantly longer and heats up faster if you do end up using all the hot water. My house of 4 uses about 50kWh of hot water a month, which works out to about 5bucks a month. I’ve messed with it a bit so it runs mostly during off peak hours.

I replaced my water heater, got a heatpump and improved insulation at around the same time (through the greener homes loan program) and on the whole saved about 50bucks a month overall, and will save another 30 when I cap off the gas pipe and get to stop paying all the bullshit fees for just having it connected. I live in southern Ontario, away from the lakes, so -30 - 30 weather typically. (All this week has been 40+ though, wonder why…).

Oh and fwiw, I would take my current induction stovetop over a gas stove anyway, much more consistent, easier to clean and heats up faster, and doesn’t heat up the whole house to run.

Not to be cynical, but how can you monetize peertube as a creator. Even if you are established enough to do in video sponsorships, your sponsors aren’t going to really accept views from peertube when they evaluate how much your worth. So it either does nothing or it sinks your career.

Yep and when they pay for better they tend to ship the engineer to their base of operations. Huge brain drain.

I recently got to buy myself a new oven, and I got one of those double compartment ones for exactly that reason, and it’s awesome, especially for pizza.

Obviously I’m not suggesting you replace your oven just for that, but if anyone is in the market for one I highly recommend a double compartment oven

I mostly wfh so not really a problem anynore. However, I had a trick from before covid. My companies av is trash, it scans any new files created with a single thread, there’s a exception for the directory we compile in (although it’s frequently failing and scanning anyway 🙄) but I keep a repo outside that directory for when I want make my compile take 6hours instead of 10minutes. I also have this as my screensaver

so why not rm -rf folder/.git/* then rm -r folder/*

You wouldn’t neccesarily need to pay attention to the master and all, probably easier to request the video twice from youtube, detect the bits that don’t change, skip timestamps around to only play those bits. Might have a bit of a failure rate if the same ad is served twice, and youtube could fight back by letting creators make slightly different video versions but still better than nothing.
