4chan humor is mostly moldy af in my opinion, plus it links the fediverse to a toxic internet culture.

Reddit’s decline further and further into alt-right bullshit was facilitated in part by subs like greentext. The alt-right always tries to use “humor” as a gateway into normal spaces, corrupting them by slowly introducing fashy nonsense as “just jokes bro”.

They post this stuff on other social media because their incel kingdom is dying. I say let it die, no need to give them relevance.

wow, what a way to demonize a group of people you don’t understand. How does one achieve the naivety to believe only a single political faction operates like this? I have bad news for you comrades. We were all incels once. Don’t give up on others–the ‘alt-right’ suffers the same as we do. I also have to point out the blatant hypocrisy of disavowing ‘toxic internet culture’ in the most toxic and myopic way possible 😆

Because literally only one does. There is no bothsides here. 4chan is a cesspool that spawned some of the most awful hate seen on the Internet. Bannon saw the opportunity to there during Gamer Gate and 4chan was a willing springboard for the political disaster unfolding not just in the US but globally.

Fuck 4chan and fuck fascists, there is no giving them a “fair shake”, they are not entitled to get their foot in the door.

Why are you so confident that you are correct here? Have you literally examined every facet of the internet?

I’m not questioning the goodness of anything. I’m just curious to see where your confidence stems from to demonize a whole collective of people beyond redemption. You’d think we’d get past this kind of ideology after WWII, y’know?

Show me a left wing community on the Internet where they joke about rape and share videos of beheadings and pictures of dead kids to make jokes about. Where they relentlessly dox women who dare complain about being represented as sex objects in video games and media, harassing them in a coordinated, explicit purpose of driving them to misery or even suicide. Where their memes like “an hero” stem from a literal suicide posted to their community. Show me the left wing equivalent of that trash.

4chan is disgusting, and it’s disgusting because of the garbage human beings who hang out there.

The problem with your demands, is that the second I did show you exactly what you are requesting, you would simply shrug away my evidence as inauthentic. “That’s not a real left wing community” Isn’t that the Leftist motto, “That wasn’t real communism/socialism”

But this is also what I’m trying to convey about 4chan. Its merely an anonymous image board of stupidity for the large majority of its users. This makes it an easy target for sensitive individuals who refuse to do their own field research.

I don’t use 4chan, I just download the funny snipped things like this. I generally avoid most hyper political memes because those are the hardest to repost. They also age the hardest. No one cares about the fly on pences head anymore so I can’t post those.

Not saying 4chan doesn’t have its problems or whatever, just my perspective for hoarding memes is I save what’s funny but also what I can repost elsewhere and for the longest time afterwards.

A lot of instances have downvotes disabled and another lesson we all gleaned from Reddit is that votes are not effective content moderation.

Ah, very fair. Was not aware of this! That would certainly skew the voting metrics to some degree.

Oh I’m not saying you can’t comment and discuss. That’s the whole point right?

But you can also just downvote the post if ya don’t like it and move on? I just see some posts of stuff where it’ll have a solid ratio of upvotes to downvotes, but then see people comment “why are we posting [x]?” Because it has more upvotes than downvotes? If you don’t like it and want to send a message, then downvote? I think discussing is a waste of time.

Although I guess I’m part of the problem by continuing the discussion lol

I’d prefer to express why the downvote was given, since a lot of people aren’t fully aware of how the alt-right uses a specific brand of humor to insinuate themselves into communities and that 4chan humor has its basis largely in white supremacist/misogynist/pedophile shit.

The whole point of the humor is to make a bigoted meme, then layer over it again and again until people who aren’t “initiated” don’t understand that they’re basically propagating nazi symbols etc.

It’s kind of like how after a while of a community making “ironic” nazi jokes it gets more and more difficult to distinguish the irony from just straight up support for racism. Morons get caught up in that trap, it’s how the right recruits skinheads, incels, and proud boys and such, by massaging them into complacency.

Chantard humor and symbols should be rejected wholesale, no reason to allow the fediverse to become a breeding ground for right-wingers like Reddit became.

That’s very fair, and tbh a perspective I wasn’t viewing from when I made my sarcastic comment.

The worst thing that could happen is for the fediverse to turn into a reddit clone…we certainly don’t want that.

Discussion is required to change views and inform. So I now think my original was unwarranted, sorry about that.
