I like to think that the brain will eventually be digitized without the star trek transporter problem.

but the transporter problem is a fundamental thing, you can’t magic that away any more than you can magic away the ability to copy files on a computer

better to try to build a society where this just isn’t a problem, where everyone is raised to consider a person’s mind holy and the idea of doing something shady with it triggers a profound disgust.

I think that’s too inefficient and pointless. It’d be easier to just fix our bodies when they have problems. We’d just regrow and replace everything as long as possible. Hacking the aging protocol is also important.

That’d still just be a copy.

And sounds like “I like the idea of ai, but I want something even less ethical.” Unless it is highly specialized to the point of non-sapience. “Existence? Look buddy, I cook and that’s it. I can contemplate the life cycles of ingredients and I do my best to have a safe kitchen, but beyond that I don’t have the information to think about it.”

I was thinking more like nanobot that slowly replace your brain cells till it fully replaces them after a few month. As to make it a ship of Theseus problem, and not black mirror.

Aside from a last resort, for what purpose?

I would rather go the opposite direction: brain stays (mostly) stock but supported by multiple other forms of life. Much more of a gut microbiome, harmless viruses etc add to immune system, mycelium network, microbiome automatically cleans surface.

Swap resources with a tree, filter contaminates from air/water or produce organic compounds, photosynthesis in larger tanks (stationary) or luminescence in organic gel (body).

While I agree that it should be a last resort, as even I would only feel save accepting it on my deathbed, the reason why is that I simply want nothing more than to be a full robot. Without any biology to feed, only machine!
