Yeah I really don’t like people using that to make fun of him. I know it’s just because it shows how hypocritical republicans are but it still comes off as attacking any man who wears makeup

Who are the other men being attacked by Democrats for this?

By mocking a public figure for {trait} you create a toxic atmosphere for other people with {trait}. Just because you (justifiably) hate him doesn’t make it okay to create that environment for others.

Obviously there are various degrees to this, but eyeliner? We’re really gonna start enforcing outdated toxic masculine standards because it suits us now?

Not at all what’s happening. Weaponizing bigotry against bigots is what’s happening.

I would argue it’s not at all genuine criticism but is instead highlighting for such a critic what that criticism is like to receive.

I understand that’s the intention. But you’re seeing it through a lens that already understands that, and aren’t looking at the wider effects.

Edit: Also are you seriously arguing that it’s okay to be homophobic/transphobic as long as your target is a homophobe/transphobe?

Fair. Btw thank you for not going into attack mode about this. The civility here helps me see your point much more easily.

Thank you too, I think I might have got a little too feisty at points. I’m glad I managed to stay calm enough though ❤️

I don’t think you did. You wouldn’t believe how many people will see a comment like mine and respond as though I’ve been openly and proudly bigoted. I can even calmly respond and tell them I meant nothing like that but usually they’ve already made up their mind.

It’s a good thing to give people benefit of doubt by default. I don’t always do it but it’s really a lot easier to have an exchange of ideas when a party tries a little extra hard to be fair, which I got from you. Thanks again!
