The mother of a 6-year-old was charged this week after her son took a loaded handgun to school and passed it around to other students in his class, court records show.
Ke’Erinie King, 22, has been charged with child abuse and child neglect or endangerment, carrying a weapon on school property and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, according to an affidavit.
She had the child when she was about 16 years old.
Yes, the article just flew right past that. This child had a child, and then for some reason decided she needed an un-registered gun to protect herself and her child from… ? Guesses? COUGHrapistinthefamilyCOUGH I dunno!
Okay?
Just sad all around
Honestly this is a good example of where a justice system that doesn’t revolve around incarceration would be better. Obviously this isn’t a situation society can just let fly but what becomes of this child now that their mom is locked up? Nothing good.
Edit: or maybe she isn’t, the article doesn’t mention any possible sentences.
I’m afraid this will become more common in southern states with abortion rights under attack.
I guess that kind of thing is normal and accepted in your area.
It’s legal. I’m also not into looking down on others. The ages were in the post already so highlighting it seems off.
Honestly, in cases like this, whether or not it is loaded shouldn’t be relevant. Obviously it’s more dangerous if it’s loaded, but it’s not like the kid knew either way.
It demonstrates a lower level of gun safety around minors. It’s awful if they can gain unsupervised possession of the weapon, it’s even worse if they can get the ammo too. The fact it’s a stolen gun is just the cherry on top here.
it’s not like the kid knew either way
That’s why the mother got charged. She was supposed to know better. And leaving an loaded gun where a child can get it does make a difference vs leaving an unloaded gun where a child can get it
When interviewing King, she allegedly admitted the handgun belonged to her and that she bought it from an “unknown person,” according to the affidavit.
It’s possible she claimed it was her gun (and claim she doesn’t know who she bought it from as an explanation) to protect him and take the fall for it, but still a bad situation for everyone involved…
The child is 6. Wouldn’t she take the fall no matter what?
I think they mean that she is taking the fall for the “unknown” person she “bought” the gun from.
Implying that she was holding the weapon for someone
I took a cap gun to school when I was that age. It was just a random toy to me. Despite the poor judgement, I still would have known a real gun was super off limits (not that I had access to one (never have, never will)).
I mean it’s part of the culture, innit?
Gun culture
Which culture?
You seem to be the only one who didn’t understand but I’ll happily explain. America has a big problem with their gun culture.
We also have a massive problem with racism, and when racist Americans see a black person do anything bad they spout off about how it’s “part of their culture” as a racist dogwhistle. You’re, seemingly unintentionally, sounding exactly like an American internet racist.
Dude, only you guys can inject race when there’s absolutely no reason to. I’d say that’s your second biggest problem. Right after dead children.
It’s just so common here. It’s an automatic assumption that a snide culture comment isn’t about America but those of us with some melanin in our skin.
They aren’t injecting race, its a very common dog whistle that its rare to see it not weaponized racially

Yes, together with junk food, SUVs and car-centric suburbia, it’s a way of life.
